The Different Kinds Of London Yoga

By Lela Perkins

London yoga is known to be one of the most popular exercise program of this age because many people are now more conscious about their health and fitness. Now before one would go up to the door of an instructor and sign up for a real class, he must first do a little bit of homework on the subject. Since there are a lot of variations of this ancient form of exercise, it is important that one find the one most suitable for himself.

Now there are so many variations that have been sprouting out ever since this art has gained some popularity. Among these types, there are four main ones where in the others came from. Basically, these four main variations are known as Hatha,
Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Iyengar versions.

Hatha, which is the oldest known form of this art, is the pioneer of all types and was created sometime in the fifteenth century. During that period of time, all the yogis wanted to do was to reach a very high level of enlightenment in order to understand the truth. They started by creating Hatha which is the art that emphasizes meditation and breathing as well as intense concentration.

The yogis however, realized that if they were to be able to concentrate on gaining enlightenment, they must keep their bodies healthy too. So from this point on, they started practicing what is known as Vinyasa. Vinyasa is the version of yoga that does a lot of poses and it is also the where the very famous Sun Salutation came out from.

After some time, many other practitioners of Vinyasa wanted to create a more intense version of this art in order to make their body more powerful and thus Ashtanga was born. Ashtanga is the version that will appeal to a more active type of person because it includes a lot of fast movements. Basically, this form is made of a lot of hopping, lunging, and pushing.

Now from this particular version came the Iyengar variation. Like Ashtanga, Iyengar also emphasizes a lot on giving the body more power but is more focused on the alignment of the body. This is why Iyengar makes use of a lot of things like ropes and blocks in order to help with the poses.

Of course there are other types that have also appeared because of these four. The Bikram variation is a popular one because it is the one where in one would do exercises in a hot room and sweat bullets. There is also the hanging yoga which is the one where the practitioner makes use of ropes in order to do poses in mid air.

So basically, those are some of the types of London yoga that one would be encountering in his research. Of course he must choose the one that is best suited for his body as well as his personal preference so that he will be able to benefit. If he is decided on one type, then he may just go for it.
