Skin Treatments for Rosacea

By Alistair Nole

The chronic and occasionally progressive facial disorder called acne rosacea is one that worldwide, affects 45 million people. It is characterized by an extremely sensitive skin, permanent redness, bloodshot eyes and swelling. Those from north-western European descent have been known to be particularly affected by this, and some in Ireland dubbed it "The curse of the Celts".

Darker spots can form on the face from melasma and this is close to what rosacea can do. The marks are more red with rosacea, that is the main distinction. It's natural for people's faces to turn red from time to time. If adrenaline levels are high, this can be a reason. When
spicier food is consumed, arteries can be dilated and this can be a cause. However, rosacea takes redness to an abnormal level.

Doctors rule out bacterial infection as a cause for rosacea. Blushing occurs with some people more than others, and genetic attributes contribute to this. Alcohol can also be a factor in facial redness, and rosacea is exacerbated by it's consumption. Rosacea can appear in people at different ages, and it seems to be around 30 years old when dermatologists diagnose this disorder commonly.

Signs of rosacea may include redness around the cheeks, redness along with bumps and pimples (which usually follow red cheeks), swollen skin around the nose, and blood vessels becoming conspicuous on the skin surface.

As with other skin conditions, lasers can be used to treat rosacea. However, many dermatologists prefer to begin with topical treatment for rosacea. Too much redness is sometimes treated with tetracycline or minocin antibiotics that are included in some topical creams. This kind of treatment method can be helpful for mild and more extreme rosacea afflicted patients. Dermatologists will prescribe more heavy duty oral antibiotics when the disorder is very highly advanced.

Many people who are afflicted with rosacea use a lot of makeup to try to cover it up. What a lot of people don't know is that it could aggravate the issue by doing that. One should avoid makeup whenever possible, and it should be minimized when used on special occasions. Otherwise, stay away from it. Cleaners that are mild in nature are the best option for rosacea symptoms. Rosacea is not as likely to get worse if the face is kept as clean as possible. Natural cleansers are the obvious choice, free of major chemicals and unnatural compounds. Skin can be damaged by some more serious kinds of elements that are contained in some solutions.

The symptoms from rosacea can happen to anyone, no matter their background and many find their quality of life is not as good as it was before. Patients can have specific treatments that are for their exact type of rosacea affliction designed for them by their dermatologist. In order to lessen the effects of rosacea, using a natural skin product is a wise idea. Make use of the experience of the professionals to learn more about treating the condition. There are plenty of dermatologists who are well respected and knowledgeable that can help treat rosacea, melasma and any other skin conditions, that will improve the lives of patients.
