How to Lose Weight Post Pregnancy - 10 Fun Ideas

Are you one of those many, many people who find exercising a chore? Many of us dread the thought of working out, but if you are wondering how to lose weight post pregnancy, well, exercise is a major part of it. The good news is is that you can make it more fun for yourself! I've compiled a bunch of fun ideas that you can pick and choose from to help you actually enjoy exercising. Of course, with any type of exercise, you want to make sure your doctor has "okayed" it first. Let's get started:

1. Be a Kid! If you have older kids, make a habit of spending some quality time with them each day while getting exercise. You can do things like play tag, do up an obstacle course, jump rope, hula-hooping (great for the waistline!), ice-skating, tobogganing (great for the legs walking up those hills!), play the Wii, jump on a trampoline, etc. The kids get their exercise too!

2. Turn the Music On. And dance! Put on your favorite tunes for awhile and dance around with baby and have some fun. Some days with babies/kids can get stressful so letting loose and having some dance time can be almost therapeutic, and you're getting exercise at the same time.

3. Pedometer Competitions. A different type of idea on how to lose weight post pregnancy. Pick yourself up a pedometer (they're pretty inexpensive), and challenge friends, family members or co-workers to have a competition with you each day on who can walk the most steps in a day.

4. Commercials. Do you watch T.V. at all during the day? Try to make it a habit to workout during the commercials. Pick up a set of hand weights (inexpensive for a pair at Walmart) and do some reps during the ever so boring commercial time. That's just one example. You can also do things like jumping jacks, jogging in place, ab exercises, push-ups, squats, etc.

5. Bike Ride. Take baby (and your other kids if you have) and get out and enjoy the fresh air with a bike ride. My kids always enjoy the bike ride too so it's a win-win situation. My kids ride their bikes a little slower than me so to give myself a bit more of a workout, I like to switch my bike to a harder gear.

6. Zoo. Pack up the kids and get out to the zoo for a couple hours. Most kids love the zoo so they'll be happy, and you get your exercise with the walking.

7. Park/Beach. This is such a great way on how to lose weight post pregnancy because there are many things you can do at the park or beach. If you're heading to the park, bring a frisbee and/or ball to throw around, or bring a friend with their kids and get a game of some sort going (like soccer, etc.). You can also go for a nature walk and explore if the park has walking trails. At the beach, you can get in the water and play catch, frisbee, swim, play around in the water, jump in the waves, etc.

8. Mall. Want to get out with a friend and have some "you" time for awhile? Well, if you enjoy shopping, that's a great way to get out and have a good time and get exercise. Or, you can even get out with baby if you like and walk around the mall with them. I used to do that in the winter when I'd get a little stir crazy.

Where I live it gets pretty cold in the winter so I would go on those really cold days when I wanted to get out (and get my exercise).

9. Something New. It can be fun to try something you've never done before, or maybe something you've been wanting to try and just haven't gotten around to it for some reason. For example, I've always thought belly-dancing looked kind of fun but didn't want to take a class in case I felt a little self-conscious doing it around other people, so I finally bought a belly-dancing exercise DVD and tried it at home. Turns out, I love it! So, don't be afraid to try something new to make exercise fun.

10. The Little Things. When we think of how to lose weight post pregnancy, we may leave out the little things that add up. Try to think of ways that can contribute to your weight loss that you may not generally think about. Things like parking far from stores in the parking lot, walking your kids to school instead of driving, walking/riding your bike to places like work, the gym, a friend's house, etc., taking the stairs rather than elevators/escalators, etc. Challenge yourself and see how many "little things" you can come up with to get more exercise!

The moral of this story is always try to make exercise fun so that you always enjoy it! It'll make the effort of how to lose weight post pregnancy seem pretty easy. Try to mix it up and not always do the same thing so you don't get bored. Have fun!
